Where contractor GL premium leaks
The price is built from a handful of inputs. Getting each one right is where the savings come from.
The wrong class code
GL is rated by the work you do. A roofer and a gutter installer can be billed at very different rates, and many policies still carry the code from the day they were written.
Uninsured subcontractors
If your subs cannot show their own certificates, the carrier adds their cost to your premium at audit. Collecting COIs up front keeps that charge off your bill.
Revenue estimates that miss
Premium is set on projected revenue or payroll. Overestimate and you prepay too much; underestimate and the audit bill arrives later. We size it to your real pipeline.
One carrier, every year
Carrier appetite for each trade shifts from year to year. Quoting 100+ markets finds the ones currently pricing your work competitively.
What contractor GL covers
Third-party injury and property damage
A visitor trips over your materials, or your crew damages the client's property while on site.
Completed operations
Claims that surface after the job is finished, such as a leak traced back to your installation months later.
Additional insured and waiver of subrogation
The endorsements general contractors and property owners require before you can start work, written with the wording they ask for.
Your premium, re-shopped in three steps
Send us your current policy
Share your declarations page or tell us what you pay today. That is the benchmark every quote is measured against.
We re-shop it across 100+ carriers
A licensed specialist corrects the rating details and takes the submission to the carriers currently writing your line.

Contractor General Liability questions, answered
How much does general liability cost for a contractor?
It depends on your trade, your revenue or payroll, where you work, how much you subcontract and your claims history. A handyman and a roofing contractor with the same revenue can pay very different amounts. The only reliable number is a quote built from your actual operations.
Why does my general contractor keep rejecting my certificate?
The usual causes are a missing additional insured endorsement, the wrong waiver of subrogation wording, or limits below the contract requirement. A specialist checks these against your contract before the certificate goes out.
Can I switch carriers in the middle of my policy term?
Often yes. Most policies can be cancelled and replaced mid-term, and any unearned premium is refunded. We check the cancellation terms and any short-rate penalty before recommending a switch.
