What we check

The requirements that get COIs bounced

Whoever vets your certificate, a general contractor, a landlord, a liquor board, or an event venue, is checking the same handful of requirements. Miss one and it comes back rejected. These are what we grade you against.

For contractors & trades

General Liability limits

Per-occurrence and aggregate limits benchmarked against the size of jobs you take on.

Additional Insured

Ongoing and completed-operations endorsements (CG 20 10 + CG 20 37) that GCs and owners require.

Waiver of Subrogation

Blanket waivers on GL and Workers’ Comp that nearly every commercial contract demands.

Primary & Non-Contributory

The P&NC wording that keeps your policy from pushing losses back onto the hiring party.

Workers' Compensation

Statutory WC, Employers’ Liability limits, and exemptions for sole proprietors with no staff.

Trade & state exclusions

Roofing, excavation, and New York action-over exclusions that silently void required coverage.

For restaurants, bars & food service

Liquor Liability (dram shop)

The coverage your liquor license, lease, and every event venue require, routinely excluded or sublimited.

Assault & Battery sublimit

The token $25k or $50k sublimit or exclusion on bar and nightclub policies that leases and lenders reject.

Landlord as Additional Insured

Landlord, property manager, and lender named on the certificate with the limits your lease specifies.

Host liquor & off-premises

Off-site GL and host liquor naming each venue as Additional Insured before they let you cater.

Workers' Comp & EPLI

WC for tipped and kitchen staff, plus the EPLI gap food service leaves uncovered more than any industry.

Delivery & spoilage

Hired & non-owned auto for delivery, plus spoilage and business-interruption your lease expects.

FAQ

COI checker questions, answered

What is a Certificate of Insurance (COI)?

A Certificate of Insurance is a one-page summary of your active insurance policies, the carrier, coverage types, limits, and effective dates. General contractors, property owners, and clients ask for a COI before you start work to confirm you carry the coverage their contract requires.

Why do contractor COIs get rejected?

The most common reasons are limits that fall below what the contract requires, a missing Additional Insured endorsement, no Waiver of Subrogation, missing Primary & Non-Contributory wording, and no Workers’ Compensation line. A certificate can also be rejected when a hidden exclusion in the underlying policy, like a roofing, excavation, or New York action-over exclusion, means the coverage the contract requires is not actually there.

Why do restaurant and bar COIs get rejected?

For food and drink businesses the certificate is usually vetted by a landlord, a liquor-licensing authority, or an event venue rather than a general contractor. The frequent rejection triggers are missing or sublimited liquor liability, a low assault & battery sublimit on bar policies, the landlord not being named as Additional Insured with the limits the lease requires, no host-liquor or off-premises coverage for catering, and a missing Workers’ Compensation line for tipped and kitchen staff.

Is the COI checker really free?

Yes. The check is free, takes about a minute, and requires no account. You get an instant preliminary report of the requirements your profile typically has to satisfy. If you want a licensed specialist to review your actual documents and issue a corrected COI, we ask for an email so we can reach you.

Does the tool read my uploaded policy?

The instant report is built from the answers you provide, not from a document. It flags where certificates like yours most often get rejected. To confirm your specific COI and fix any gaps, a licensed Aiden specialist reviews your actual policy and the contract line by line. That is the part a person, not an algorithm, signs off on.

How fast can Aiden fix a rejected COI?

Once a specialist has your policy and the contract requirements, corrected certificates and the endorsements behind them can often be issued the same day. Aiden then keeps watching your coverage year-round so the next certificate clears the first time.

Stop losing jobs to a bounced certificate.

Aiden pairs an AI risk engine that watches your coverage year-round with a licensed specialist who fixes the gaps and issues clean COIs, often the same day.
